In March, 2001, Ms. Patty Miao, a Sales Manager responsible to Asian Pacific Area in TYAN, was flying to Australia to attend CeBIT Australia which was one of the largest IT exhibitions in Australia. At this time, she met a contract manager – Jan from Insite. While they just met, both of them felt like old friends at the first meeting. It was a good sign for the future cooperation.

In the end of 2001, Jan sent Patty an email to look for the business opportunity. It was a studio project, and lead time was only in 2 months. Also, the price was very sensensitive. Finally, TYAN won the project with a very aggressive schedule and a special price. After Christmas, TYAN learned that this project was for a movie – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

The Lord of the Rings made WETA successful

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was an epic adventure movie ad a symbol showing that latest computer graphic technology in these years. Especially, in "The Two Towers" movie, the fighting scene between the Ent troops and a large of army troops was very fascinating. Because of this scene, the series won "The best achievement in visual effects" in Oscar award and made studio – WETA to become an important computer graphic film laboratory comparing to George Lucas' ILM and James Cameron's Digital Domain.

In "The Two Towers" movie, there were more mysterious characters than in "The Return of the King" movie. Specially, Ent was very impressive to audiences. Ent was a living, walking tree-shepherd who is the oldest begin in Middle-earth. In the movie, because of computer graphic technology, some successful characters were created – e.g., big monkey, dinosaurs in the island, and monsters in ancient age. All of them were from WETA's endeavor. From this successful, WETA won OSCAR Award again by King Kong movie. And, "The Chronicles of Narnia" series was handled by WETA as well.

TYAN makes fantastic image to become true

It was very hard to present creative story in the past, but now, because of computer graphic technology, the most of them can be fulfilled and presented easily in front of audiences. Nowadays, computer performance is demanded stricter than before, especially, in computer graphic, movie making and graphic design fields. For example, in order to fulfill computer graphic in "The Two Towers", the movie company was adopting TYAN's S2721 server board to produce computer graphic, 3D graphic and high quality image in the movie.

Two white slots of PCI-X were designed at 133MHz speed, and one green slot of PCI-X was running at 100MHz speed to support ZCR function by Intel and Adaptec. For memory specification, it supports dual-channel DDR200/266 specification. In the other words, Registered ECC memory needs to be installed and maximum 12GB memory capacity will be supported.
