Tyan® Supports Intel®'s New Socket370 Celeron Processor
-- Tyan also announces support for the 450MHz Pentium® II Xeon --

FREMONT, California, November 16, 1998 - Tyan® Computer Corp. announced a new motherboard to support the Socket 370 Celeron processor from Intel. The new board, named the Tomahawk BX (S1856SLA), is based on the Intel 440BX AGPset.

The Tomahawk BX is designed with a 370-pin CPU socket to support Intel's new Plastic Pin Grid Array (PPGA-370) package for the Celeron processor. The socketed Celeron processor is intended for the cost sensitive sub-$1000 PC market. It delivers very fast performance at an aggressive price. The Tomahawk BX is Tyan's first product designed for maximum expandability in the low costPC. In an ATX form factor, the board supports five PCI bus master slots as well as two ISA and one AGP slots. The board includes a built in Ensoniq 32-bit PC sound, UltraDMA/33 IDE support and a complete set of super I/O ports. Tomahawk BX can support up to 768MB of SDRAM in its three DIMM sockets.

Thunder X now supports 450MHz Pentium II Xeon CPUs

The Tyan Thunder X (S1952DLU), a dual Slot 2 motherboard that supports two Intel Pentium II Xeon processors, now supports Intel's newly released 450MHz Pentium II Xeon processor. By supporting the latest processor technology Tyan is able to stay a step ahead of the competition.

The Thunder X is designed in an industry standard ATX form factor identical to Intel's Marlinspike Slot 2 motherboard. It is designed for maximum expandability with six 32-bit PCI Bus Master slots, one ISA slot and one AGP slot. The board features a built-in twin channel Ultra2 Wide SCSI controller (Adaptec AIC7896) with LVD support, as well as two UDMA/33 IDE ports.  This provides outstanding performance and expandability in the storage subsystem.

"The Thunder X greatly extends Tyan's leadership position in system boards for high performance workstations and with its integrated Ultra2 SCSI controller, will significantly out-perform any Intel based workstation platform currently on the market," according to Dr. Symon Chang, Tyan Chairman and CEO.

Based on the Intel 440GX AGPset, the Thunder X is also Tyan's first motherboard to support up to 2GB of PC/100 SDRAM.   Combined with the Pentium II Xeon's full speed level 2 cache, this will give memory performance that rivals RISC workstations. Other features include Super I/O support; AMI Plug 'n' Play BIOS; and advanced system management features such as LM81 sensor chips with on-board alarm to monitor fans, temperature and voltage levels. Intel's LANDesk Client Manager software is also included.
