  1. My USB Mouse/Keyboard and other devices are sluggish under Windows 2000.  What do I do?

    Make sure to enable USB Mouse and Keyboard support in the BIOs under "Advanced Chipset Features".
     
  2. How do I setup/configure my VIA Chipset board for Win 98, ME or 2000?
     
    1. Make sure that your system is in a bare bones configuration. For the most part, you should be able to install your OS with all of your peripherals installed. With that said, use the following procedure if you are still having problems with the OS install. The outlined procedure will eliminate any problems that may be caused by your peripherals. To begin this, start with the necessary components attached such as processors, memory(use only one stick for OS installation), video card, keyboard, mouse, hard drive, CD-Rom drive, and floppy disk drive.  NO OTHER DEVICES SHOULD BE INSTALLED ONTO THE SYSTEM BOARD AT THIS TIME!!
       
    2. Make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard.  Please check your version against the latest version for your motherboard listed here: http://www.tyan.com/support/html/bios_support.html.   If you do not have the latest version, you will need to flash to it.  For information on How to Flash Your BIOS, please visit http://www.tyan.com/support/html/how_to_flash.html
       
    3. Once you have the latest version of the BIOS on your motherboard, enter CMOS Setup by pressing the "Delete" key when your machine is booting up.  Once inside the BIOS, you will need to make the following changes:
       
      1. Under Power Management Setup, make sure that either "Power Management" or "ACPI Function" is set to "Enabled".
      2. Under Power Management Setup, make sure that "PM Control By APM" is set to "Disabled" (if available).
      3. Under PNP/PCI Configuration, make sure that "PNP OS Installed is Set to "Yes".
         
    4. Save changes and exit CMOS Setup.
       
    5. If installing Windows Millenium or 2000, boot directly off of the Installation CD and proceed with installation.
       
    6. If installing Windows 98, boot off of a Windows 98 Start Up Diskette and start up with CD-Rom Support.  Once at an A: prompt, switch to your CD-Rom Drive and type in the following command: "setup.exe /pj".  Proceed with installation.
       
    7. Immediately after the OS Installation is completed,  Install the latest VIA 4-in-1 Drivers (version 4.29 as of March 29th, 2001). These are found at www.viatech.com or www.viahardware.com
       
    8. After Installing the VIA drivers, install the latest video card drivers.  Note: If running an NVIDIA based video card, you MUST use the NVIDIA Reference Drivers version 6.31 or above as found at www.nvidia.com
       
    9. Next, install your other PCI/ISA devices onto the motherboard. 
      -Suggested PCI slot configuration for Most Common PCI Peripherals-
      Sound Card in PCI Slot 5 or 6
      Network Interface Card in PCI Slot 3 or 4
      SCSI card in PCI slot 3 or 4
       
  3. I just installed the VIA 4-in-1 Drivers under Windows 95/98/ME, and when the machine reboots, it says that it cannot locate the Viagart.vxd file.  What do I do?

    Uninstall that version of the VIA 4-in-1 Drivers and install version 4.28 or 4.29 from www.viatech.com or www.viahardware.com
     
  4. Why can't I have my system turn back on automatically after a power failure?

    This motherboard does not support the power recovery options.
     
  5. Why does my retail Intel heat sink and fan not fit my motherboard?

    Currently Intel has changed the configuration of their 1 gig heat sink and fan combination.  This heat sink and fan combo currently will not fit correctly on any TYAN motherboard.  If you have this problem we suggest you use a heat sink and fan combo from Alpha Nova Tech.  The part number is PAL 6035.  This combination has been tested and found to fit in all the current TYAN layout designs.

  6. Does my TYAN board support Linux operating systems?

    During pre-release testing, our compatibility engineers run our products through a battery of tests, including operating system installations. We currently perform basic installations of many operating systems including Red Hat Linux and SuSE Linux. Although we do perform installations of these O/S's, we do not guarantee complete compatibility, primarily due to the open nature of the source code. As we do with all of our products, we strongly encourage you to purchase our products through reputable dealers that provide adequate return and service policies. At present, we do not provide technical support for Linux-based inquiries.
     
  7. Why does my HD Led stay on constantly when I use Windows 2000 operating system?

    Make sure that you have the latest version of the bios and this issue will not arise.
     
  8. Why isn't my system stable?

    Instability can be traced to many different causes.  The one cause most associated with instability is heat.  9 times out of 10 the heat sink is not installed properly on the cpu itself.  The heat sink must be installed perfectly flat upon the cpu with the proper amount of heat sink compound between the cpu and the heat sink.  There simply can be no daylight between the heat sink and the cpu.  The other issue is that the heat sink and fan simply are not rated high enough to disperse the heat from the cpu in a timely fashion. 
     
  9. Why can't I get my 1 GHz (or higher) Celeron to work with my P3 based motherboard?

    Starting in January of 2001 Intel added a 256k Cache Celeron to the market place.  These celeron cpu's start at 1ghz and go up to 1.3 ghz.  These cpu's can be identified as 1 A GHz/100 cpus or by the term FC-PGA2.  These cpu's are not compatible for the P3 line of motherboards from TYAN.  The serial numbers can be read directly on the cpu's themselves to determine if they are able to run on our P3 line of motherboards.

    The serial numbers included in this incompatible list are: SL5ZF, SL5VP, SL5XU, SL5XR, SL5VQ, SL5ZE, SL5XS, Sh5Y5, SL656, SL5VR, SL5ZJ
