TYAN Press Release

Tyan Trinity i845 Supports Next-Generation Intel Processor, SDRAM, 4X AGP And More

Fremont, CA, September 10, 2001 – Tyan® Computer Corporation today announced that it has initiated sampling of it's first platform for the latest Intel Pentium 4 processor. The Trinity i845 utilizes Intel's latest chipset technology to bring Pentium 4-based performance to the masses through support for cost-effective Synchronous Dynamic RAM (SDRAM).

Tyan, a leading designer and manufacturer of Internet infrastructure products and system board solutions, is one of a handful of system board suppliers manufacturing platforms for Intel's latest Socket 478 design. This new processor socket supports Intel's next-generation processors based on the Pentium 4 processor core.

Utilizing the new Intel 845 chipset, the Trinity i845 brings cost-effective memory support to the Pentium 4 platform. This chipset supports the widely used and extremely affordable SDRAM, bringing the power of the Pentium 4 processor to the masses. In addition, the Trinity i845 features a 4x AGP slot, six PCI slots and supports both ATA-100 drives and USB peripherals.

Intel's 845 chipset utilizes innovative Memory Controller Hub (MCH) architecture enhancements such as wider data paths, a write cache and flexible memory refresh technology to enable optimum PC133 SDRAM performance. Further, the i845 also supports the latest graphics cards through a 1.5-volt 4x AGP interface, enabling up to 1GB/sec of graphics bandwidth.

"Designed for the latest Pentium 4 processors from Intel, our new Trinity i845 provides leading-edge processor performance, while incorporating support for widely available, cost-effective SDRAM," stated Danny Hsu, Director of Strategic Marketing at Tyan. "The Trinity i845 provides exceptional value to users looking for breakthrough processor performance and proven memory support."

The Trinity i845 is currently available in sample quantities. Tyan expects volume production to begin in early Q4 2001.
