Intel Officially Launches Intel 5400 Server Chipset and Together Tyan Launches Its Tempest i5400 Series Product

Tempest i5400 Series Product Supporting the Next Generation 45nm Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 Series Processor (Codename: Harpertown)

SC07, Sparks, Nevada– On November 12th, 2007, Intel (Nov. 12th, 2007) launches the next-generation server chipset Intel 5400 chipset, supporting the Dual-Core/Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5100/5300 series processor.   The latest innovation advancement features the 45nm Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 series processor (codename: Harpertown) support.  Tyan Computer, the leading server solutions provider, plans to utilize the Intel 5400 chipset for its Tempest i5400 S5397, S5393, and S5396 server motherboards.

Featuring Intel’s 5400 series chipset, the Tempest i5400 S5397, S5393, S5396, and S5392, 45nm Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 processor (codename: Harpertown) based platforms will increase up to 1333/1600MHz front side bus and 12MB of L2 cache,  which will dramatically enhances the platform’s computing power and providing a greater benefits for HPC server needs.  In addition, the Intel Xeon 5400 processor and the current 65nm Dual-Core/Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5100/5300 series processor power consumption are very much the same.  Therefore, no extra power wattage is needed for the performance gain and the Performance per Watt will also be significantly improved.  The I/O expansion slot also features upgrade of a Gen 2 PCI Express to increase the transmitting speed.

Designed to be a high-performance platform, the Tempest i5400 S5397, has a 1600/1333 MHz front side bus.  In addition, it’s equipped with 16 FBDIMM-533/667/800 memory slots up to 128 GB of system memory capacity for HPC computing and memory intensive server application requirement needs.  With two high-speed x16 PCI-E Gen 2 expansion slot, it can support an I/O expansion card or a graphic card.  With the onboard Firewire 1394, the board is an excellent graphic rendering workstation platform.  The Tempest S5393, featuring eight FBDIMM-533/667/800 memory slot, can support up to 128 GB system memory capacity and including a Gen 2’s graphic card capability for the x16 PCI Express expansion slot.

The Tempest i5400 S5396 and S5392 are designed and can be utilized as a workstation platform.  The S5396 features a total of eight memory slots, two high-speed Gen 2 x16 PCI-E expansion slot capabilities, and an onboard Firewire 1394 interface.  The Tempest S5392 is equipped with four memory slots, and a single Gen 2 x16 PCI Express expansion slot.  It’s a great entry-level workstation platform.
