Trinity Board Supports Full Range of Socket7 Processors for Desktop PCs

Super 7 board offers ultimate flexibility with 7 expansion slots and 768MB memory

FREMONT, California, June 15, 1999 - Tyan® Computer Corp. today announced its Trinity ATX S1598, an innovative Super 7 board that combines two popular chipsets to provide ultimate power and flexibility for desktop computers. A single ZIF Socket 7 offers support for a broad range of high-speed processors, including the newest devices from AMD, Cyrix, IDT, Intel and others. The board also offers front side bus support for 66 to 100MHz.

Trinity has integrated both a VIA Apollo MVP3 (VT82C598) North Bridge memory and AGP controller with a VIA Apollo MVP4 (VT82C686) South Bridge Super I/O controller. "Combining the MVP3 and MVP4 chipsets made sense for us," said Don Clegg, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  "We stuck with the non-integrated graphics solution in the MVP3 so that our customers could tailor their display systems to their own liking.  The addition of the MVP4 South Bridge allows us to provide Ultra DMA/66 which gives Trinity ATX a competitive advantage over other Super 7 boards".

Some standard features include a 1MB of on-board Pipeline Burst SRAM cache, although 512K or 2MB versions are optional. The board offers seven usable slots including one AGP slot that supports 66 to 133MHz speeds, five 32-bit PCI 2.1 Bus Master slots and two 16-bit ISA slots (one is shared with a PCI slot). All slots support full-length add-on cards for optimal flexibility and system scalability.

The ATX-design board supports from 8MB to 768MB system memory and features three 3.3V unbuffered 168-pin DIMM sockets for 66MHz or 100MHz (PC100 compliant) SDRAM or EDO.  Trinity ATX provides two channels of Ultra DMA/66 on two 40-pin IDE connectors (supports up to four drives), while one floppy connector supports up to two 1.44MB, 2.88MB or Mode 3 drives. The Trinity board also features two serial ports, one parallel port, one fast IR header, two USB ports and PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports. Integrated audio features, including digital link audio, on board codec, MIDI/game ports and video-in headers are optional. Other standard features include a 3-pin Wake on LAN header, a 3-pin Wake on Modem header, and support for two three-pin fan speed monitoring.

The Trinity ATX S1598 board, which carries a standard three-year manufacturers warranty, is priced below $90 in OEM quantities.
